Irrigation is defined in the Cambridge English Dictionary as the practice of supplying land with water so that crops and plants will grow. There are a number of methods including flood, spray, or drip irrigation that can be used to achieve that objective.
With the Grundfos SQFlex, CR Flex, or the range of larger pumps driven by their RSI Inverters all of these methods are possible.
The simplest solution is to pump during daylight hours to an elevated storage tank and use that elevation to supply the flow and pressure required to irrigate crops. Typically, the water is distributed to the crops by simply flooding the land. This method of irrigation is not very efficient as the water can drain away before reaching the intended area. Alternatively, therefore, the water from the tank can be used to directly irrigate the crops through pipework using spray or drip irrigation.
On occasions water is required for irrigation at a constant flow and pressure greater than that achievable by tank gravity alone. The Grundfos solar pumping systems use very efficient variable speed solutions and when the demand for constant flow and pressure is needed these pumps can be powered by batteries that in turn are charged by solar panels.
